Local Community Risk Assessment, Cultural Promotion, and Specific Implementation Measures

  • Assessment of Community Risks and Opportunities
Based on the principle of local coexistence and shared prosperity, the Company has conducted risk identification and opportunity assessments for its operating location in Muar, Malaysia:
  • Risk Identification:
    • Environmental and Public Health Risks: Manufacturing operations may generate noise and air pollution. In addition, improper waste management at employee dormitories could lead to environmental cleanliness issues and public health concerns within the community.
    • Social Integration Risks: A large influx of foreign migrant workers into the community, if not properly managed, may cause unease among local residents due to differences in living habits or consumer-related disputes.
  • Opportunity Identification:
    • The Company regards local engagement as a key driver of sustainable growth. By supporting the local economy (e.g., collaboration with local businesses) and promoting cultural and educational initiatives (e.g., schools and community organizations), the Company seeks to build deep mutual trust with the local community.

II. Specific Measures
The Company has implemented multi-layered measures, ranging from fundamental environmental sanitation to higher-level cultural promotion, to comprehensively fulfill its responsibilities to the local community:

  1. Environmental Protection and Community Hygiene Management
  • High-Standard Environmental Controls:
The Company strictly complies with, and strives to exceed, Malaysian regulatory standards in controlling factory noise and air emissions, thereby minimizing disturbances to neighboring communities.
  • Dormitory Waste Management:
Professional cleaning service providers are proactively engaged to carry out high-frequency waste collection and environmental management at employee dormitories two to three times per week. This prevents waste accumulation, unpleasant odors, and vector-borne pest issues, safeguarding overall community environmental quality.
  1. Social Inclusion and Support for the Local Economy
  • Collaboration with Local Retailers (Credit-Based Purchasing Mechanism):
The Company assists foreign employees in establishing cooperative arrangements with nearby shops, allowing daily necessities to be purchased through a credit-based system. This initiative not only contributes directly to local merchants’ revenue (supporting the local economy) but also helps regulate migrant workers’ consumption practices, reducing misunderstandings or disputes arising from language barriers and fostering harmonious coexistence between migrant workers and local residents.
  • Institutionalized Donation Management:
The Company has established the Integrity Management Procedures and Code of Conduct, which require that charitable donations comply with applicable laws and be properly documented in writing, ensuring that resources are accurately allocated to legitimate charitable organizations.
  1. Cultural Heritage and Public Welfare Engagement
  • Long-Term Community Engagement:
The Company provides ongoing sponsorship to the Muar Guan Sheng Temple Dragon and Lion Dance Troupe (to promote traditional Chinese culture), Muar Chung Hwa High School (to support local education), and Lions Club Dialysis Center (to support medical care), demonstrating the Company’s commitment to cultural preservation and social welfare.
